Picture Ripper used MS Media Player to render thumbnails for GIF in previous builds due to LZW patent. The patent has expired in June and now Picture Ripper can render thumbnails without using third party tools. Support for animated GIFs scheduled for the next release.

- [#] Picture Ripper could crash if tried to make a thumbnail for corrupted movie clip - FIXED!
- [#] Bug fix: Picture Ripper might quit when user tried to view images in another folder - FIXED!
- [#] few cosmetic bug fixes to image view pane
Image dimensions in "Best Fit" mode were not calculated properly sometimes. Background color change takes effect immediately (required a restart in previous releases).- [+] Download progress (as percentage counter) is shown in the Thread List pane
Those with slow modems or those who download movies will like this feature... Broadband users probably will not notice it.. ;-)- [+] Added new button to allow easy refreshing of root folder of currently running project.
- [*]Added improved support for movies embedded into pages (those movies that play inside a browser)
Picture Ripper was able to download such embedded movies before, but only if they were embedded with "embed" HTML tag, now Picture Ripper should find and check any URL inside HTML applets
- [*] Relaxed rules related to image location. Now image or movie should be put in the queue regardless of its location.
Check how it does for you. If you will end up with tons of junk (like web page counters, icons, banners) then I will either turn it off, or leave it as an option in program settings. The main goal to allow Picture Ripper to find more media files than ever.. Just need to measure impact on quality of what it finds (don't forget about image size filters, BTW)
- [#] Bug fix: bug that caused "Out of memory" error message on some images.
- [*] Thumbnail pane redraw is flicker free now
- [*] Empty media files (0 bytes size) are now ignored and not visible in the thumbnail pane
Such zero size images and movies could appear if either download process is terminated by user or remote server refused connection unexpectedly.
- [+] SMART: Recreate folder structure from URL
It works similar to its parent "Recreate folder structure from URL". But the SMART one works smarter as you can guess from its name. Many picture sites have pages with thumbnails linked to other pages with only one image and maybe next/previous buttons and a banner ad. When you use old option "Recreate folder structure from URL" then Picture Ripper will create sub-folder for each image. It is very inconvenient and annoying when you have to select folder just to see a single picture or a movie clip. Here comes the SMART option! If Picture Ripper sees only 1 to 4 images on a single page, then it places all these pictures in one folder. The threshold number 4 is a count of a picture, a banner and two extra image files - maybe any other graphic files, i.e. buttons, icons, etc. Enjoy!- [#] Movie thumbnail generator bug fixed
- [*] Some cosmetic interface changes
- [#] A "Directory Site" type algorithm has been fixed. Now it should work as designated.
If you know what www.dmoz.org is then you'll love that Directory site type. Check out a sample project Fractals. Save Fractals.prp file to any location you like and then double click on it to start up Picture Ripper and then you'll see this sample project inside the Default Category. Make sure Picture Ripper is not running when you double click on Fractals.prp file. Enjoy!
- [#] Few users reported that sometimes Picture Ripper silently exits during the crawling process - Fixed!
We have undertaken several steps to avoid that, so if you will encounter any sort of such behavior, please let us know. Thank you!
- [+] Added thumbnail sorting when in Thumbnail Mode (use context menu - right click over any thumbnail).
- [+] Now Picture Ripper is able to follow some Java Script links.
- [+] Thread list pane got two new context menu items - Pause/Resume Threads.
Now you can pause/resume crawler and fetcher threads. It is useful if you want to pause crawlers for some time to allow fetcher threads to download media files from the queue, or you can allow crawlers to explore site(s) and see how many media files they can find.
- [+] New site type added: "Picture Site [Brute Force]"
This site type has most easiest rule set. Using this type of site will require more time to discover images, but Picture Ripper will find them anyway. Try this site type if any other "Picture Site" types have failed. This site type is useful when you need to rip files from a certain site. It will not rip files from "foreign" domains, otherwise it could go to infinity once it encounters some huge site like Yahoo! directory.
- [#] The serious bug in crawler engine was fixed.
The bug was introduced in build 3012, and left unnoticed in release 3014. Because of this bug even some sample projects were not functional
- [+] Completely rewritten code for thumbnail pane:
- Faster and more convenient operation
- Allows to select several files at once
- Media files can be deleted from within thumbnail view pane
- Two display modes: Thumbnail view and Report view (use F8 or Toolbar Button)
- Sortable columns in Report view
- Movie files are highlighted with light green border
- User can queue up movie clips in Media Player (via right-click context menu).
- Click able support links in About dialog
- [+] Once Picture Ripper creates a folder when downloading media files, the "Refresh Selected Folder" button blinks 2 times
This is to notify user that Picture Ripper has created new sub folder. If you like you may press the "Refresh Selected Folder" and currently selected folder will be re-read to reflect latest changes in local file system.
- [*] Improved behavior of Folder Tree and the "Refresh Selected Folder" button.
- [+] IE History lookup button in New Project Dialog
Now, if you use Internet Explorer 5.5 or later, you do not need to copy and paste URLs to create Picture Ripper project. Just use "IE History" button!- [+] Picture Ripper can grab and make thumbs for Windows® Media Video files (WMV) - added per user request.
- [+] Now Picture Ripper can re-create local folder structure from URL
It is useful if you need to separate galleries downloaded from different domain names and their folders and pages- [+] "Check For Update" button added. Look at Help>About... dialog
- [#] Relative URLs were not parsed correctly - fixed
- [*] Improved crawler engine allows to grab media files linked to 3rd level domains
- [#] Help file was not accessible from within Picture Ripper on Windows ME boxes - fixed
<< Back to Download Page
- [+] Filter by keyword accepts "+" sign to tell Picture Ripper to download media files ONLY from URLs that contain "+keyword"
Example: if you want "blondes", use "+blond" and Picture Ripper will ignore all URLs that do NOT have word "blond".
- [#] Some links were parsed incorrectly - fixed
- [*] More robust redirect detection
